Katherine 11 is a young girl full of zeal and excess. She is afraid at first of everything, but once she tries something and feels safe she goes full throttle. She often wants to please by helping but finishing the task takes more effort. She has developed her ways because she is from a home of prostitution. She interfered with her mom’s “work” and would run away when she was drunk or with men…in self defense, to keep from being beaten or offered. The mom brought her and her brother to child services and told them she did not want them, and could not care for them, or control them. She left and never came back or contacted them. They went to a couple of temp foster homes, then to our church family in the mountains. Now Katherine and her Brother Lenin have a permanent home with us in the Children’s Lighthouse, and will attend school for the first time. Most of our children are from similar situations, an uneducated woman in bad relationships often left alone to care for children with no income. In a desperate situation prostitution becomes the easiest way to survive, but comes at a high cost most never see….Our home is filled with the collateral damage children.

Lenin 8 is more reserved and sneaky than his sister Katherine, he too is filled with excess and zeal. Both long for a loving family and have already come to understand they are now safe and have begun to open up share their hearts and stories with us. Both were eager to begin calling us mami and papi…They now feel at “home”. My prayer is that the castaway children brought into our lives will be touched of the LORD and be taught God’s ways and bring him a special glory not found any other way. God does his best work with that which the world rejects…
