To our ministering praying saints,
Have yet another prayer request not yet mentioned.
We just registered the kids for school and final work is classes start Monday. Still need lots for them all; Uniforms, shoes, pe clothes, books, supplies for the 24 children we put in school. (21 live with us). Lots to do and little time or money to get it done. The LORD will provide I am sure. Lisa is out getting shoes today. The real prayer request is for Kathryn. She turned 12 yesterday and still has not passed the 1st grade. After special testing and talking to the school director everyone thinks the same as we did in the beginning; She is in need of a full time special education teacher. At first we thought Lisa might handle this but I do not see that at this time. We also need to start our own school and this may well be a first step. A full time teacher would also help the other children. This is not something in our budget. A qualified government approved college educated full time teacher would cost around about $300-400 a month. They would also begin teaching some of the older children as they advance beyond the mandated 6th grade. Not sure how the Children’s Lighthouse will grow or continue but we will soon be in the new building and this is just one of many needs as we move and take on more children. Please add this to our long list of praises and needs to pray for. Thank you

Katherine 11 is a young girl full of zeal and excess. She is afraid at first of everything, but once she tries something and feels safe she goes full throttle. She often wants to please by helping but finishing the task takes more effort. She has developed her ways because she is from a home of prostitution. She interfered with her mom’s “work” and would run away when she was drunk or with men…in self defense, to keep from being beaten or offered. The mom brought her and her brother to child services and told them she did not want them, and could not care for them, or control them. She left and never came back or contacted them. They went to a couple of temp foster homes, then to our church family in the mountains. Now Katherine and her Brother Lenin have a permanent home with us in the Children’s Lighthouse, and will attend school for the first time. Most of our children are from similar situations, an uneducated woman in bad relationships often left alone to care for children with no income. In a desperate situation prostitution becomes the easiest way to survive, but comes at a high cost most never see….Our home is filled with the collateral damage children.

Lenin 8 is more reserved and sneaky than his sister Katherine, he too is filled with excess and zeal. Both long for a loving family and have already come to understand they are now safe and have begun to open up share their hearts and stories with us. Both were eager to begin calling us mami and papi…They now feel at “home”. My prayer is that the castaway children brought into our lives will be touched of the LORD and be taught God’s ways and bring him a special glory not found any other way. God does his best work with that which the world rejects…

Iris 10 is one of those children you know are in the hand of God. She is here because her mother tried to sell her for money to get to the USA. Iris trusted the LORD as Saviour and has grown closer ever since; Always wanting to pray and sing in church. Always wanting to witness to her family. Even with what she has gone through she never fails to pray for her mom and her older sister who at 15 has also learned the prostitute way of life. Not just a mention but heart felt tears in prayer that affects and often shames the adults who hear. She reads her bible and was excited when she finished the gospels in her private devotional time. Iris always wants to show gratitude and affection and is easily corrected when shown God’s way. She is by all witnesses a Child of God. I am in awe of what God might do with her life.

Karen Patricia 9 is a special little girl in our hearts. She has a sweet spirit and yearns for a father figure. She was abandoned by her mother as a baby and her father passed away a while back of emphyzemia. At 8years old she was the bread winner and caregiver for her dieing father. She was a street child hussling to eek out an existence for her and her father. In his last days they went to the social hospital and she stayed by his side till she was left alone in the world. The hospital called child services to pick up a dirty, scared, sad and lonely little girl. They placed her and 4 others with one of our church families in the mountains and told them when Barry finishes the Children’s Lighthouse you can live with them… but no one told me. In March, after we started construction, I was visiting the church and several children ran up to me and said when are we going to go live with you? Uh huh? We have been helping with food ect since then. In Dec I was taking up doors and windows for the church and saw the children again. While I was sitting and talking to everyone, Karen Patrica walked up behind me began gently brushing the dirt off my back from unloading the truck. Then slowly put her arm around my neck for a long hug and said softly in my ear “Poppy when can I come live with you?” My heart broke that moment and we took them all in. Not knowing how we would do it, but knew we needed to do it. She is full of love to give and never misses an opportunity to say I love you or give hugs. On Jan 1st sitting on the beach with Lisa she turned and asked her with the cutest puppy face imaginable. "Will you be my real mommy?" We are now working at making her paperwork more permanant by actually adopting her, and give her the security and belonging she longs for.
This Christmas she received a gift of a family… But I think I got the best present and a true “Regalo de Dios” (Gift from the LORD)..Amen.
